Taylor Swift just dropped today the music video of her song "cardigan". It's a love song, yes. But, there's one line that strikes me differently:
"When you are young, they assume you know nothing."
In the recent years, our generation has received a lot of shaming for various reasons—such as being branded as snowflake and woke, or speaking up on national and controversial issues. There is still this culture of "You're just getting there but we've already been there."
The world today is not the same as the world a few years ago. There are so many issues that can only be dealt with using the ideas of today. Our actions today determine the world today and will shape the world in the future, in the same way that actions before have collaborately worked to build where we are now.
So, in defense of my generation, I'd like to ask everyone to be more welcoming to ideas.
For the elders, please see the insights coming from the new generation. We have lots of fresh ideas to offer. If we are blatantly wrong, then what we need ia guidance, not mockery.
For the youth, please review the insights of the elders, so we do not run blindly. Positive or negative, past actions should provide stepping stones for change and development.
We can do this together.
