"I waited for you."
It touched me to see
that under the rain and sun,
someone wanted to walk with me.
"You make me happy."
I drowned in his whispers.
The feeling pleasures me
as the sweet echo lingers.
"I know you can do it."
As I struggle to believe
that I can do something great,
trust was a gold I could receive.
"You are the best."
I didn't mind plunging to rock bottom
as he always lifts me to crest
with his words of validation.
I might have misheard
somewhere was a similar voice
with a similar face
and a similar word choice.
Recollect my broken pieces
my hunger for touch
my thirst for love—
I was blinded so much.
And I knew I misinterpreted
the words of that one man.
"You" was plural, general.
I was not the only one.
