Katulad

Ang mga kwento sa Wattpad ay patok na patok sa mga kabataang tulad natin. Libangan, adiksyon, o kung ano pa man ang ituring sa kanila, hindi maikakailang malaki ang impluwensya ng mga kwentong ito sa ating buhay-pampaaralan lalo na sa mga babae. Paminsan-minsan, natutuwa akong pag-isipan kung anong uri ng school life mayroon ang mga manunulat sa Wattpad. At masasabi kong malakas maka-impluwensya ang mga kwentong ito dahil pinupukaw nila ang weakpoints ng isang estudyante. Naiisip ko rin na ang school life ko ay tulad ng mga kwento sa Wattpad. Kumbaga, pwede nang i-Wattpad. Papalitan lamang ng mga pangalan ang mga karakter, medyo pagagandahin ang mga paglalarawan sa pisikal na kaanyuan, lalaharan ng mga personal na POV, at palalalimin ang mga pokus sa kemistri ng mga bida. Pwede nang i-Wattpad – isang sikat na unibersidad na may magagandang facilities na pwedeng maging setting ng istorya. Ang mga karakter naman, may nice guy, cool, MVP, astig, siga, third gender, misteryoso, bad boy/girl, bastos, sinungaling, basag-ulo, papansin, pa-tutor, tutor, mature, immature, model ng lotion, hambog, pagong, DOTA freak, mahinhin, maginoo, rich kid, student assistant, bossy, OA, seryoso, gaya-gaya, apat na mata, madaldal, espiya, uod sa libro, pulitiko, clown, sadista, masokista, buhawi, supplier, entrepreneur, malihim, walang kwentang kausap, at higit sa lahat, may Mr./Ms. Know-It-All na masasabihan mo kahit sa isip mo lang ng, “Nasa kanya na halos lahat.” Ang kaso, hindi lang naman ako ang nag-iisip nang ganito, ‘di ba? Siguradong sa isang klase ng kwarenta, hindi bababa sa sampu ang palihim na napapaisip ng mga ganitong bagay. At ang iba na hindi nakakaiisip, ibang tao ang nag-iisip para sa kanila. Kaya nga, kung isa sa amin ang magiging awtor, hindi naman pwedeng lahat ay maging bida. Hindi ako nilalait ng mga maldita at mapangmata. Ang parte ko, hindi naman kasi pag-bida. Hindi rin ako nagpapanggap na mahirap para makatakas sa kamera. Wala akong binibisitang orphanage. Hindi ako naaanyayahang mag-cutting at sakay pa sa kotse para pumunta sa mall. Wala akong kaibigang magme-makeover sa akin sa kanilang salon kapag may prom. Wala namang bibisita sa bahay ko na pinsan ko mula sa Korea o kung saan man. Hindi ako ililibre sa Jollibee ng best friend ko. Wala akong komplikasyon na pwede kong ikamatay. At, ang potential leading man ay hindi sa akin may gusto. Wala bang kwento sa Wattpad na hindi sa iisang grupo lang ng tao nakapokus? Kung hindi man maaaring galawin ang moments ng bida, ay may mga tao namang nakikisali sa bawat kabanata – upang mas maging makulay ang karakter ng mga bida, upang hindi lamang sa kanila umiikot ang kwento at ang mundo, upang mas maraming tao ang mabigyan ng pagkakataong magkaroon ng “moment”, upang mas maraming mapulot na aral ang mga mambabasa. Siguro nga, nakabase talaga sa kultura ng manunulat ang kanyang mga akda, likhang-isip man o hango sa tunay na buhay. Pero napagtanto ko, ang mga nababasa natin sa Wattpad ay mga kwento lamang. Sa dami ng ating mga nababasa, marami na sa mga ito ang magkakapareho ng simula, gitna, climax o ending, na tila nababawasan na ng orihinalidad at pagiging kakaiba. Hindi naman siguro masamang maging modelo ang mga kwentong ito kung matulad ang sitwasyon natin sa mga karakter. Pero hindi sa lahat ng pagkakataon ay dedepende tayo. May sarili tayong kinalakihan, kultura, istruktura ng lipunan, kasaysayan, kapaligiran, koneksyon-sosyal, pagpapahalaga, hitsura, indibidwalismo. Kung hahangarin mong maging ikaw ang bida sa isang kwentong hindi sa iyo dahil lamang gusto mo ang mga nagaganap sa buhay niya, mapawawalang-saysay ng ambisyon mo ang pagiging “unique” ng buhay mo Ang ibig kong sabihin, lahat tayo ay bida sa sarili nating kwento, hindi lang natin naa-appreciate minsan. ____________________ TRANSLATION

The stories in Wattpad are patronized by the youth like us. Leisure, addiction, or whatever we treat them as, it is no doubt these stories have a huge influence in our school life especially for the girls.

Sometimes, I enjoy wondering what kind of school life the storywriters on Wattpad have. And I can say these stories can strongly influence because they hit the weakpoints of a student.

I also think that my school life is like the ones in Wattpad. In other words, it can be made into a Wattpad story. We will just replace the names of the characters, and beautify the descriptions of the physical appearances, put personal POVs, and deepen the focus on the chemistry of the protagonists.

It can be made into a Wattpad story – a famous university with good facilities which can be settings of the story. As for the characters, there is a nice guy, someone cool, MVP, awesome, thug, third gender, mysterious, bad boy/girl, pervert, liar, gangster, famewhore, tutor-needing, tutor-of-the-needing, mature, immature, lotion model, arrogant, turtle, DoTA freak, dainty, gentleman, rich kid, student assistant, bossy, entrepreneur, secretive, senseless talker, and most of all, a Mr./Ms. Know-It-all who, in your mind you can commend, has it all.

The case is, I am not the only one who thinks this, right? I am sure that in a class of 40, not less than 10 are secretly thinking of the same thing. And for the others who do not, other people think for them. That is why, if one of us becomes the author, not everyone can be the lead. I am not the type who is enslaved by the bullies and judgers.

My part is not worthy to be a lead. I am also not the type who pretends to be poor to escape the camera. I do not have an adapted orphanage. I am never invited to cut classes and ride cars just to go to the mall. I have no friend who can makeover my face in their salon for a prom. No cousin from Korea or somewhere visits my house. My best friend does not treat me to Jollibee. I have no life-at-stake complication. And, my potential leading man likes someone else.

Isn't there any story in Wattpad that does not focus on one specific group of people only? Say the moments of the protagonists are not to be changed anyhow, couldn't there be a series of people joining every chapter – to make the lead characters' roles more colorful, to make the story and the world revolve not only in them, to have more other people taste the chance to have "a moment", to create more value for the readers. Maybe yes, the story inded is based on the author's culture, be it fiction or derived from real life.

But I realized that the things we read in Wattpad are just stories. In the lot that we read, many of them are the same in the beginnings, bodies, climaxes or endings, that it seems the originality and uniqueness are reduced. I think it is not bad to make these stories our models if our situation ever becomes similar to that of their characters. But, we cannot depend at all times. We have our own circumstances we grew up in, culture, structure of the society, history, environment, social connection, values, appearances, individualism. If you will wish to become the lead of a story that is not your story just because you want the events in their lives, your ambition to be unique is definitely trashed out.

My point is, we are all lead characters in our own stories, we just do not appreciate it sometimes.
